Student & Parent Testimonials
"I heard a lot about the class from my brother and, while it helped him raise his composite score by four points, I was a bit skeptical that one class could make such a difference. I was wrong! My composite score rose four points as well and my science score went from a consistent 22 to a 31 on the test right after I took the class! I am grateful that I was able to raise my score, allowing me to qualify for thousands more dollars in scholarships, and I credit all of this to the great class. Thank you!"
— Ben, Abilene High School (June 2017)
"Our experience with Carolyn was great! My son first attended the group setting at school for tips to taking the ACT. He then took the ACT a couple of times. This allowed us to decide the areas to focus on for raising the overall number. We went to 4 sessions of 1 on 1 time with Carolyn which provided to be very beneficial. His score raised 5 points. The result exceeded our goal which was being NCAA qualified."
— Windi, Parent of Topeka High School Student (February 2017)
"I was very skeptical of the class, even after completing it. But I just found out that I raised my score from a 28 to a 30! Thank you, Carolyn!"
— Kaytlynne, Atchison High School (January 2017)
"Thank you so much for coming to Sabetha High School. I took the December ACT, hoping for a 29 or 30. The previous test I had gotten a 27. When I got my score back, I had gotten a 32!! A five point increase!! Thank you for showing us testing skills and strategies; it helped a lot!"
— Anonymous Student, Sabetha High School (December 2016)
"I wanted to say thank you for helping my son prepare for the ACT. He scored 6 points higher than he did the first time he took the test. He is excited about his improvement and wants to take your class again and then take the test again in December. Thanks again!"
— Jim, Parent of Atchison High School Student (September 2016)
"I just wanted to say thank you for the information given to Maddy in your ACT class. She received her results and went up 3 points! I’m grateful that you had us begin with the prep class rather than private tutoring. She received the exact score needed for a scholarship."
— Melanie, Parent of Olathe Northwest High School Student (June 2016)
"Thank you for travelling to Hiawatha High School to teach your ACT prep course. My son Alec took the class in December after previously taking the ACT in October. He received a 28 on the October test. Today we received his scores from the December test and he earned a 31! Thank you for the strategies and lessons you taught him as he prepared for the test. More importantly, I believe the confidence you gave him allowed him to go into the test a second time knowing he could improve his score."
— Denise, Parent of Hiawatha High School Student (December 2015)
"I took the ACT in April and wanted to improve my score. Then I took the ACT Power Prep Class in May and also did the timed practice tests at home to help prepare. On the June ACT, my overall score went up 5 points and my science score went from a 24 to a 36! This class was the key! I truly learned the strategies needed to improve my score. Thanks for a great class, Carolyn."
— Jared, Thomas More Prep - Marian High School (June 2015)
"I got a 33 on the ACT and a 32 on the science section. I couldn't have done it without all your help last summer. Thank you so much!"
— Kasey - Rose Hill High School (June 2015)
"I relied on the strategies taught in this prep class to raise my score because I didn't have a lot of time to study the material that would be on the test. My composite score raised 3 points and my science score raised 8 points alone. I now have the ACT score that I need to receive a much larger scholarship. Carolyn is the real MVP!"
— Hannah, Salina South High School (April 2015)
"I'm so glad I took this course. The strategies I learned in the class helped me to use my time during the test more efficiently. My overall score improved by 5 points with my science category showing an 11 point increase! It's definitely worth your time."
— Anthony, Junction City High School (February 2015)
"When it comes to mastering the ACT, nobody can prepare you like Ms. Devane. It took just a few private sessions for her to help me raise my 29 to a 33! There is nobody out there who has more study advice, time management tips, and strategies. She goes beyond the generic strategies you would find online or in the ACT prep book. When it came time for me to take the test, there were absolutely no surprises. I couldn't have felt more prepared for the test, and I couldn't be more thankful for Ms. Devane for helping me on such a personal level."
— Molly, Manhattan High School (October 2014)
"My daughter took Carolyn's ACT Prep class at KSU, and I attended the parent presentation. We were both very impressed with the organization of the day and the detailed and thorough means in which Carolyn presented the content. My daughter raised her composite by 3 points after the class...results!"
— Carla, Parent of Rock Creek High School Student (January 2014)
"I've taken the ACT three times now. The first time I just jumped into it without practice and got a 25 (knowing I was going to take it again). Then I tried studying on my own and got a 26 (I was kind of bummed). After taking your class I got a 29, and I seriously can't thank you enough. Getting those results made my day, and now I feel like I can go to school where I wanted because so many more scholarships are available. Anyways, I just wanted you to know how much of a difference the class made, and I already told my sister she should take it for sure when the time comes."
— Caroline, Manhattan High School
"My composite score was up 5 points after the class. Overall a huge improvement!! I would just like to say thank you!"
— Lindsay, Riley County High School
"Without these strategies on taking the ACT, I would not have picked up the additional 5 points I needed to be eligible for the NCAA Clearinghouse and Division I football. I had taken the ACT two times, and was just about to give up when my high school counselor suggested I go to her class."
— Taylor, Wamego High School
"The ACT class isn't necessarily to teach students how to master the material, but you're given shockingly easy test-taking tips that really make a difference on your test score. Trust me. The few hours of instruction are absolutely worth it!"
— Lindsey, Manhattan High School
"I have to admit that at first I was skeptical. But after the first session I knew it would be worth it. I improved my English score by 10 points and my reading by 6 the next time I took the test. From start to finish, I improved my Composite score by 7 points going from a 23 to a 30!”
— Joe, Manhattan High School
“I can’t say enough about Carolyn Devane and her ACT prep program. My son scored a 23 on his ACT the first time he took it with a 20 in English and a 19 in reading. After taking Carolyn’s class, he scored a 27 composite with a 29 in English and 26 in Reading. He eventually scored a 30 composite ACT score on a later test after reviewing Carolyn’s strategies and practicing further. The 7-point improvement in his score has made a huge difference in the schools he was accepted to as well as scholarship money received. He could not have done this without Carolyn.”
— Rebecca, Parent of Manhattan High School Student
"As a high school counselor and a parent, I was thrilled to offer ACT Test Taking Strategies to our students at Wamego High School. I was amazed by the number of students who improved their scores. Some sub scores by as many as 6 points. (That was our son! He raised his composite score by 2 points, giving him additional scholarship money.) The price is reasonable and the results speak for themselves."
— Shelley Rickstrew, Wamego High School Counselor
